Artificial intelligence could reduce unnecessary stops in traffic lights in a single intersection by 30,000 annually

The city of Vantaa has been experimenting with applying computer vision and artificial intelligence to traffic lights. The results for the pilot have been published in mid June 2020.

The aim of a pilot project was to understand the real time situation in a given intersection to improve efficiency of traffic traffic flow and improve detection of pedestrians and cyclists.

Finland completes auction for 26 GHz millimeter wave 5G networks

Finland has invested heavily in the fifth generation 5G cellular networks. All of the nordic country's three operators have a working 5G mobile coverage. Currently all networks are using the medium band, sub 6 GHZ, but now the country pushes forward with mmWave (millimeter wave) networks.

World's first liquid cooled 5G base station deployed in Finland

Finnish telecom operator Elisa has deployed the world's first commercial liquid cooled 5G base station. The technology has been developed by Nokia and allows using the waste energy of the mobile network device to heat a building or hot water. Liquid cooling can reduce base station energy consumption by 30% and CO2 emissions by up to 80%.

Finland to deploy Galileo following allegations of Russian GPS jamming

Finland will deploy the European Union Galileo satellite positioning system in the beging of 2020. One of the key features of the new is better protection against signal jamming. This was recently brought up after wide scale GPS jamming operations in northern Finland during the NATO war games.
