How many sensors are there in F1 engines?
How many sensors are there in a modern Formula 1 car and what can the data engineers see from these? And is it possible to adjust the engine during driving and if so, is it changes to the engine mapping?
There are probably tens of sensors in a contemporary F1 car engine. There are sensors registering all the pressures such as oil and water, temperatures, turbo speeds and many other facts. In short the F1 car is packed with sensors.
Drivers can change the engine mapping during driving, but this is no longer allowed from the pitlane. Regulations prohibiting this were put into place in the mid 2000s.
