Why is the radio quality still so low in Formula 1?

Lots of data is sent from a modern Formula 1 car to the pit when the car is on track. How is it possible that in this high tech age the sound of the radio is as bad as it sounds. Is it just as poor for the team pitwall as well?

The audio quality of radio transmissions is degraded by the loud environment. The engine is right behind the driver. Also the airflow coming into the helmet makes the radio hard to hear at times.
