Helsinki Police fines thirty Uber drivers, deems company legal

Police in Helsinki, Finland has fined thirty Uber drivers during the christmas party season. The fines were given while regular alcohol testings. The grounds for the fines are that the national legistlation in Finland requires that Uber drivers have a taxi permit. They asked for permits from the drivers and fines were given if they had none.

Mobile company Jolla faces restructuring

The company developing the Sailfish Operating system and select mobile devices enters debt restructuring. Jolla will also need to temporarily layoff a substancial number of it's employees. The move comes as the investment round, ending in November, is behind schedule.

Government announces cuts to employee benefits in Finland

Finland has been lagging behind in economic terms for a while now. While some sectors, such as IT are doing fine due to the pressure to digitalise services, more traditional industries and service sectors continue to struggle. The Finnish Government today announced measures to improve the competitiveness of the Finnish economy. This includes universal cuts to employment terms in Finland.

Kimi Räikkönen now a purveyor of alcohol

At the end of August the cruise and ferry ship operator Tallink announced that it has acquired the rights to sell an alcoholic drink with the Iceman brand. The Finnish racing driver Kimi Räikkönen has now appeared in official media material for the Iceman Long Drink, a mild alcohol drink.

Finnish politician suggests people be embedded with a chip to prevent misuse of social welfare benefits abroad

In the last few days paying out social benefits to citizens living outside of Finland has been in discussions. A politician from the True Finns Party, Pasi Mäenranta, is also worried about the abuse of the benefits. He published a post on Facebook, where he suggests that all Finnish citizens leaving the country be embedded with an identification chip.
