How is the differential slip lock in F1 cars?

How does a locked differential help in traction with the abundant torque in V6 turbo cars. How does the lock mechanism work?

There is an electronic lock in the differential. It emulates a mechanical lock with an electronic programme. This can not be too "smart", but it needs to be consistent at all times and not change according to external parameters. Without the differential lock F1 cars would have a difficult time leaving corners as one of the tires would easily spin out of control
