Why is the wet weather tire in F1 larger?
What is the advantage of having the wet weather tire in Formula be 10 millimetres in diameter larger than the dry condition tire? Could Pirelli make the full wets thinner do make driving easier and decrease aquaplaning?
Full wet tires are larger in diameter to increase the ride height of the car. In wet conditions the car needs to be higher to reduce the tendency of aquaplaning. The regulations have a range for the width of tires. The front tires need to be between 305-355 mm wide and 365-385 mm for the rears.
